elizabeth murray...cool "sculptural paintings"

by karen #1965 third grade teacher here is a picture of me with a work done by elizabeth murray...titled "rollin' stone"...
wow...it was big..it was colorful...of course...i liked the color...and was real interested in the art...i looked up some information to find out that elizabeth murray had passed away in 2007...there was a great article in the new york times...interested in her contributions to art, check it out...
that article got me more interested...so i found this cool interview...
and PBS has a amazing site...ART:21...lookie!

here is a couple of her pieces of work for your eyes...

if i were doing this art with kids, i might get them to sketch out the work on paper...then, draw on wood...or styrofoam..or foam core...whatever you can find...and then assemble it...with whatever you can find...

look at her stuff...it is lots of pieces...made into one work of art...even though some of the works of art are multiple pieces...

so...

funny thing...
three dog night...they sang this song in 1969...

One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It's the loneliest number since the number one

No is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes, it's the saddest experience you'll ever know
`Cause one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number, worse than two...

  1. Thanks so much for reminding me of the great work of Murray. I loved your pictures of her work so much I had to break out my History of Modern Art book from college. (It's been a while. If I were in your family I'd be known as #1967) :D I've been wanting to do an assemblage project like Murray or Frank Stella. You've got me thinking..... thanks again!
