A Golden Art Project - Gustav Klimt!

I saw Gustav Klimt's art at the Neue Galerie in New York City during the NAEA Convention 2017 (For that post, Click HERE.)  Also, I watched The Woman in Gold on Netflix.  I just could not get Klimt's Gold out of my head. We posted on Gustav Klimt in the past. (Click HERE.)  After many months, a project possibility popped into my head!
Here we go!

Directions:

We watched Woman in Gold!!!   Yes, my 8th graders really enjoyed the movie.  We spent 3 class periods watching the movie, but the kid's learned about some art and history.  I was amazed at their questions about the movie.  The kids connected and felt empathy for the Bloch-Bauer family and let out a loud cheer when Maria Altman's paintings were returned.

Okay, now the project!

1-Use the Elmer's Glue to crank out some designs.  Then, let the Elmer's dry.

2-Once the glue dries, get outside and spray the art gold!

3-When the gold spray paint dries, begin painting with acrylic paint.

A little paint, here.
More paint, here.
All of the paint, here.

Honestly, I love this project.  The kids absolutely loved the project.
Also, I love this Klimt quote.

Ending with "Heart of Gold" with Neil Young.

Repeat Pattern Watercolor

Pattern in art and design is the repetition of lines, shapes, tones, colors, textures and forms. I think our US Art Teacher did a fabulous job at teaching this lesson.

What is Repetition, Pattern, and Rhythm?

What is repetition, pattern, and rhythm?  How do they relate to each other?
Repetition refers to one object or shape repeated; pattern is a combination of elements or shapes repeated in a recurring and regular arrangement; rhythm--is a combination of elements repeated, but with variations.

Repetition

Repetition is an object, form, or figure that is repeated.

Pattern

Pattern is a combination of elements or shapes repeated in a recurring and regular arrangement.

Rhythm

What is Rhythm?
Rhythm is like pattern, in that the same elements (i.e.shape, line) are repeated; however, with rhythm there are slight variations in the pattern. Rhythm is easily perceived but complex and subtle. Think of  water on a beach; it  continually breaks on the shore in lines that are repeated,  yet each one is different.

Warming Up With Paul Klee Pumpkins on a Cool Night

First Grade learned about Paul Klee and warm/cool colors.  Here's how the project went down!  For more pumpkin posts, click HERE!

Directions:

I showed the video below to give a little background information on Paul Klee.

I ran across this post Click HERE for Miss Osborne'sTiny Art Room Post and we drew our pumpkins similar to Miss Osborne's 2nd Grade.  Thanks to Miss Osborne!  We used pencils to draw the pumpkins and the kids went over the pumpkins with black oil pastel.

The kids painted the pumpkins with liquid watercolor using warm colors.  They painted the background with cool colors.

Wa-Laa!

Aren't these pumpkins just smashing?  :)  Here's the Smashing Pumpkins with one of their best, "Cherub Rock".
