2 Soul Sisters Art Camp 2023 and Bobo's Bowls!

One of the first projects that we did at 2 Soul Sisters Art Camp was glaze Bobo Bowls!  Who is Bobo?  Bobo is our daddy.  Bobo was sweet and did 36 of the bowls for his girls' camp.  He is a nice fellow.  Look below.  Aren't his socks and crocks pretty?

I will say, the key to having a camp with 2 adults and 36 kids is to be organized.  As you can see, we did our best to get prepared.

We had separated kids into groups.  The groups consisted of a mix of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 year olds.  The older kids were really good about helping the younger kids.
We had the tables labeled.  We had their names on their bowls with an underglaze pencil.

We used old paintbrushes for the glaze.  I have the kids just dip out of the glaze bottle.  It is less wasteful.  Also, I give the kids a "BIG SPILL" how much the glaze costs per jar so they will HOPEFULLY not have a BIG SPILL!

Also, I explain how the glaze will look chalky.  I provide an example so they can see how shiny the bowls come out!  We have the kids put 2 coats on the bowls.  They glaze the front.  Wait a few minutes.  They glaze the back.  Wait a few minutes.  They glaze the front again.  They wait a few minutes.  They glaze the back again!  And they are so GLAD to be done!

Always a pretty sight to see!

A BIG Thanks to Bobo for throwing the bowls and firing them for free!  Guess we owe him a pan of cornbread and some fried green tomatoes!

John Cornbread Anderson Art Project

Cornbread with the 2 Soul Sisters was a success. One of our favorite lessons from this camp was the Cornbread lesson. Yes, we have covered cornbread before on this blog. See the links below for more ideas:

We used 4x6 wooden blocks. It was good getting the campers to sand the blocks and prime them with house paint. We used acrylic paint to design our individual art pieces. On the tables we had references sheets for them to use as inspiration. Scroll down and take a looksy... We think you will like what you see.
