American Gothic Parody With Some New Spins…EVEN THE GOLDEN GIRLS!

American Gothic Parodies were pretty fun!  I can’t say which is my favorite because I like all of them!  We have done parodies in the past.  Click HERE for Parodies!

How did this go down?

The middle schoolers picked their characters.

We looked for possibilities online.

We searched for “black and white” or “outline” SpongeBob or whatever.

I copied it and pasted it into a word document and we sized it up or down.  

The kids traced the background and then the characters.

The kids used sharpie to finish up!

Clay Sugar Skulls

Have you ever rolled out clay on a slab roller and had the kids design Sugar Skulls? If not, give it a try. This lesson was low prep but packed a loaded punch full of learning. Scroll down for more details and past post more even more ideas.

Clay Snow Globe Ornaments Painted with Acrylic Paint

This was a very clever idea from our Lower School Art Teacher, Cathy. She did a micro unit on how to use the slab roller and showed the students all of the ins and outs of that piece of clay equipment because when they get to middle school with me they just need to know how to use it on their on in my 3D Art Class. 

Once the clay was cut out and fired on 04 slow holding at 10, the bisque was ready to embellish as an ornament of your choice. This year was a snow globe theme. They used acrylic paint to design the winter scene. Once the scene was designed, they dried and she used a sealer on top. (polyurethane spray)

Step 3 was adding the details of the choice of ribbon to adorn the snow globe. Lots of Elements and Principles were taught in this lesson along with the Studio Habits of Mind.
