Mixed Media Color Lesson With Funky Flowers With The 2 Soul Sisters Summer Art Camp

How did we get the painted paper? We used the paper that we created during our water gun warm and cool color painted paper activity. Creating "Mixed Media Color Lesson with Funky Flowers from Painted Paper" was delightful! This educational camp activity for the 2 Soul Sisters Summer Art Camp was worth it. Here's a step-by-step guide to organizing this project:

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Painting the Paper:
    • Begin by providing each camper with sheets of white paper or cardstock. See blog post on painted paper with water guns.
    • Instruct campers to use various colors of acrylic or tempera paints to cover the paper entirely with the water gun activity. Encourage mixing colors to create new shades and experimenting with different techniques.
  2. Creating Color:
    • Once the painted paper is dry, guide the campers in drawing and cutting out circles from the painted paper. These will form the color centerl for the flowers.
    • Divide the circles into sections representing warm and cool colors. Encourage campers to arrange the painted paper before they glue in the final formation.
  3. Designing Funky Flowers:
    • Ask the campers to sketch flower shapes on the remaining painted paper, using a variety of sizes and petal designs.
    • Help them by guiding the instruction of cutting out these flower shapes using scissors.
  4. Assembling Mixed Media Flowers:
    • Guide the campers in assembling their funky flowers using the painted paper circles as the flower centers and the cut-out flower shapes as petals.
    • Encourage layering and arranging the petals in creative ways to create unique and colorful flower designs.
  5. Adding Details:
    • Campers can further personalize their flowers by adding details with markers, crayons, or colored pencils. They can draw patterns, lines, or additional designs to enhance the flowers.
  6. Display and Discussion:
    • Once completed, display the vibrant and unique funky flowers created by the campers around the art camp area or hold an exhibition to showcase their artwork.
    • Initiate a discussion about color theory and the color wheel, highlighting the importance of understanding color relationships in art.

This activity not only allowed the campers to explore their creativity and experiment with mixed media but also provided a fun and hands-on way to learn about colors and their relationships on the color wheel. We encouraged campers to embrace their artistic instincts and celebrate their colorful creations!
