The REAL Chevy Chase is 80 TODAY!

The 2 Soul Sisters were raised by Chevy Chase and a very sweet mama named Elaine. We have had LOTS of crazy stories because of our Chevy Chase, Bob Cochran, or Bobo, as most call him.  Today is Bobo’s 80th Birthday and we thought everyone would enjoy this unusual tribute to the REAL CHEVY CHASE!

  1. Once we got a Christmas tree🎄that was too big.  What did Bobo do? He sawed off the Christmas tree.  He gave the tree a shove and up through the roof it went!  Our sweet mom was not happy.
  2. He sends his "Medical Doctor" granddaughter a picture of a rash that he was concerned about.  It was not a rash.  It was a tick bite!
  3. He leaves fishing poles🎣 propped on the dock with the line in the lake WITH BAIT ON THE POLE!  The fish🐟 come. The fish🐟 bite.  The fish🐟 pull the pole off the deck into the lake.  Yup, we keep the local sporting goods store busy with fishing pole replacements.
  4. He is not a good packer.  One time he packed the mattress on the back of a truck🚙      and was traveling to a lake about 2.5 hours away.  We get to the lake and there is no mattress 🛏.  It flew off on the way!
  5. Once a cassette tape got stuck in his truck and we had to listen to the same song over and over for years.
  6. When we go to the lake and take the boat, Bobo gets excited.  He gets so excited; he forgets to put the plug in the boat 🛥 and the boat sinks!
  7. Once Bobo got 2 speeding tickets 🎫 in one day.  Yup.
  8. When you are pulling a boat back from the beach 🏖 and have a flat tire on the boat trailer, what do you do?  You leave the boat beside the interstate.  When you wake up the next morning, you find the boat sitting in the driveway at your home 🏡.  How did it happen?  Well, Bobo had the ugliest bright blue boat that you could ever imagine.  His friend was driving down the interstate and saw the ugliest boat ever and fixed the tire.  Then, he hitched it up behind his truck and hauled it home.
  9. Once upon a time, Bobo and his friend, Kay Dunn, painted a goat 🐐 red.  The goat did not mind.  Bobo was just a little artist 🎨 painting on whatever medium he could find in the country in the 1950s.  Things were different then, folks.
  10. Bobo loves boiled peanuts 🥜.  When he gets a hankering to boil peanuts, we have a little PTSD.  Back in the 1970s, he boiled the peanuts and took a nap…for the entire night!  We woke up to a smoky house and a pot with a burned-out bottom.  I do recall this being another happy mama moment.
  11. Bobo left dog food on the countertop in the kitchen one afternoon.  The lights were off, and I grabbed what I thought to be chocolate covered peanuts.  Unfortunately, I got a big mouthful of DOG 🐶 FOOD!
  12. One time Bobo broke his foot because he fell out of the deer stand.  I do not know if he was not wanting to go to the doctor or what, but he used a pogo stick to get around for a bit.
  13. Bobo thought it would be a great idea to tie a kite 🪁 that looked like an Octopus to the end of a boardwalk at the beach.  When he was coming back from the beach, he somehow managed to get hung up in the Octopus kite and took a fall off the boardwalk.  Let’s just say that it was not the smoothest landing.
  14. A Chevy truck can get across any terrain.  The sign at Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park says, “Four-Wheel Drive Vehicles ONLY”.  I think Bobo read the sign as only trucks with 4 wheels because he kept on trucking into the park in his Chevy.  Of course, he got stuck with my husband in the passenger seat.  So, they head back to the entrance of the park on foot.  Luckily, there was a tank type vehicle cruising around pulling the stuck trucks out of their predicaments for only $500💰cash.  Bobo and Bob were cruising back to the beach house with a story to tell and with a much lighter wallet.
  15. When we were teenagers, we had a pontoon boat.  We attached a water ski rope and would ski behind the pontoon boat.  We were teenagers and not big and all worked great!  Bobo decided that he wanted to ski.  So, we got him hooked up to the boat. We push the lever down and as we do the pontoon boat struggles.  We kept on, but noticed the railing on the back of the pontoon boat was bending.  This was Bobo’s last attempt to ski behind a pontoon boat.
  16. Bobo has a dental bridge with a couple of teeth 🦷 on it.  I do not know what happened to the teeth.  Maybe the red goat kicked him!  Anyway, he lost his dental bridge.  We could not find it anywhere.  The next morning, we wake up to find our dog, Buttons, chewing on his dental bridge.
  17. Bobo used to love to go to our friends’ houses on Christmas🎅morning and set fireworks🎇off!  Then, we would drive off like a bat🦇coming out of the bad place.
  18. One night we were in Macon, Georgia, eating at a fish place.  We drove up and I guess my head was out the window looking at something. Bobo starts rolling up the window (oh yeah, it was a manual hand roll-up crank window) and rolled the window up on my neck!  I was yelling, but he did not hear me because my head was stuck outside the car!
  19. Sometimes Bobo does not use good judgment.  He loaded up a big bag of sand dollars from the beach.  We road home in the back of the station wagon with the sand dollars.  On the way home, they got a little smelly.  When we got back to Butler, GA, he decided to put them on a utility building in the backyard.  Within a few days, the neighbors would avoid going outside at all costs.  They assumed that there was a dead animal nearby.  Uh, no.  It was some poor sand dollars that were misplaced from their happy home at St. George Island.
  20. Once we took a trip to St. George Island.  We had 3 vehicles full of stuff.  Bobo runs up the steps to the house rental door and motions for us to come on it.  We unpack everything and this would include a PlayStation 2.  I started cooking grits for the fresh shrimp🍤🍤🍤 we purchased on the way to SGI.  The kids were playing with our new hermit crabs🦀.  We hooked up the PlayStation 2.  Mama threw some wet towels in the washing machine.  Eventually, we noticed things did not seem right.  When we called the real estate agent, she drove down to help us figure out exactly what was going on.  Oddly enough, she pulled in at the house next door.  We yelled at her.  She walked over and said, “What are you doing over at that house?  This is your house.”  She points👉 at the neighboring house.  She said you have 30 minutes to get out of that house because the owners are headed back!  And guess what, the owners did come back, but we were safe and sound in our real house!
Bobo, it has been a fun 80 years!  Let's keep those "Happy Holidays" moments coming and let's keep on Rockin' and Rollin'!  Little Robbie will be here soon to join in on the Cochran shenanigans!  Now ain't that a blessing?
