Glass Fusing Art Lesson

Have you ever used glass in an art room? Well, it looks harder than it is. I encourage you to give it a try. We created these fun star-like pieces. The best part of this lesson was we were able to invite another teacher in for a little artsy goodness. She created the fish in the above picture. Um, so just how cool is that? Scroll on down to learn more about this type SHOM lesson (Studio Habits of Mind Lesson) I am ready to make some more!

We fuse our glass pendants at R3 no hold in a glass kiln.
Take them out and get the kiln wash off with sponges and water. Sometimes we have to resort to a toothbrush for extra scrubbing.

In the past, we use the glass grinder to smooth out the edges. Let dry and use E6000 to add jewelry findings. With these stars we just used ribbon to make a tie. For Cameron's glass fish, we used high fire wire and fused it together in the Ra firing. This prepares middle school kids for the glass media lesson in Upper School.

Of course, we had to post on all of our social media platforms!
We have found that this helps to build excitement about our projects.

The ribbon was a finishing touch to be able to hang at home. I would probably just shadow box mine.

If you had your hole fuse over, no worries....there is no problem that can't be solved. We just have to think outside the box like the image above =)

Yes, I managed to sign up for the Daily Chirp through Natural Life and I love getting these visuals in my mailbox each morning!

Check out Cameron's FISH....So groovy!
Glad she popped in to have some art time with us.
