These are a few photos of spare propellers for the QM2. They are beautiful functional pieces of art. Check out the detail on each one. The waves have a repeat pattern that illustrates movement. In good weather, they allow you out onto the Open Observation Deck where the "Commodores Cufflinks" (8 spare propeller blades) are on display. This spot on the boat was one of my favorite places to visit each day on my daily walk.
This place is at the front of the promenade deck. The deck swerves behind the shelter of the bridge screen, giving picture window views of what looks like an avant-garde sculpture garden. Yes, in the middle of the Atlantic you can walk through a sculpture garden. Now as an art teacher this is amazing!!!! It appears to be a series of huge polished metal fins. Eight spare propeller blades, kept there in readiness for propeller-related emergencies for QM2.
I am so glad to be able to share this post with you. Amazing just how something ordinary can be extraordinary by the way it is stored or displayed! Enjoy 1969
TY!
