Art Camp Highlights: Painting Red Georgia Clay Bowls Hand Thrown By Bobo

Hey, Welcome back to more from our Summer Art Camp! Our campers had an amazing time painting beautiful red Georgia clay bowls. These bowls were hand-thrown by Bobo, the talented dad of the 2 Soul Sisters. Let's dive into the fun details of our creative day!

What We Did

Our campers started with special bowls made from red Georgia clay. These bowls had been bisqued (baked once in a kiln) and were ready for painting. Each camper received their very own bowl to decorate.

Painting with Warm Colors

We used warm, inviting colors for our bowls:

  • Sassy Orange
  • Fire Cracker Red
  • Tuscan Red
  • Yellow
  • Black Underglaze pencil to write their names on the bottom of the bowls

We also used a special speckled overglaze to add a unique, colorful finish. The campers loved seeing how the speckles made their bowls even more beautiful and unique the way the flecks melted.

The Process and Experience

Painting the bowls was all about having fun and being creative. Each camper chose their favorite different warm colors to paint their bowls.

After painting, the bowls were fired in the kiln on fast at 06. This helped set the colors and gave the bowls a shiny, finished look.

Practical and Personal Touch

The best part? These bowls can be used in the future! Each camper now has a special ice cream bowl or salsa bowl they can use at home. It's a wonderful keepsake that reminds them of their creative day at Art Camp.

What We Learned

Painting the bowls taught us:

  • How to work with different colors and glazes
  • Patience and care in painting
  • The joy of creating something useful and beautiful

Each bowl was a unique masterpiece, reflecting the creativity and personality of its creator.

Final Thoughts

Art Camp is all about exploring new techniques and having fun. Painting these red Georgia clay bowls was a fantastic experience for everyone. We are so proud of our campers and their beautiful creations.

Stay tuned for more exciting art adventures at Art Camp!

Remember: Art is not just about creating something pretty, but also about making something that brings joy and can be used in everyday life. Keep creating and enjoying the process!

We want to give a huge shoutout to Bobo for always supporting our art ideas. Bobo, you're not just an amazing artist but also a fantastic father. Your creativity, patience, and love inspire us every day. The beautiful red Georgia clay bowls you made for us are a testament to your incredible talent and generosity. We love you bunches and are so grateful for everything you do. Thank you for being the best dad ever and for making our Art Camp extra special!

Art Camp Fun: Bubble Painting with Watercolors!

Welcome to another exciting project that we created during Art Camp! In this lesson, our campers explored the magical world of bubble painting with watercolors using straws. This fun and creative activity allowed us to use straws (instead of paintbrushes or sponges) and cups to make beautiful, colorful art. Let's dive into the bubbly fun we had!

What We Did

We started with simple materials:

  • Watercolor paint
  • Water
  • Bubbles (we purchased at Walmart)
  • Cups
  • Straws
  • Paper

First, we mixed the watercolors with water and a little bit of Bubbles in a bottle into our cups. Each camper picked their favorite colors to use! We had a couple of spills. Campers got creative and mixed colors together to create a multitude to choose from on each table.

Next, the real fun began! We used the straws to blow bubbles into the cups. The bubbles grew and grew until they overflowed onto our papers. It was like blowing bubbles in the bath but even more colorful!

The Process and Experience

This activity was all about the process and the experience of creating art. Each camper got to experiment with different colors and techniques. They saw how the bubbles left unique, beautiful patterns on the paper. It was a joy to see everyone's eyes light up as their artwork came to life.

Personal Touches

We made sure each piece was special by adding the campers' names to their artwork. This way, everyone had a unique creation they could be proud of for this lesson. Some campers even thought ahead and decided to save their bubble paintings for later use, like for a notebook cover. What a great idea!

What We Learned

Bubble painting taught us:

  • How to mix colors and create new shades
  • The fun of experimenting with different techniques
  • Patience and creativity in art-making

Most importantly, we learned that art is about enjoying the process and expressing ourselves. Each camper's artwork was as unique as they are, reflecting their own personality and style.

Final Thoughts

Art Camp is all about having fun and trying new things. Bubble painting with watercolors was a fantastic way to explore creativity and make beautiful art. We can’t wait to see what our campers will create next!

Stay tuned for more art camp adventures! Art is all about having fun and expressing yourself. Keep creating and enjoy the process! Scroll on down for more process photos.

Clay Chickens at Art Camp (Lucy's friends from Last Chance Trailer Park)

At our art camp, we had an exciting visit from a guest artist who introduced us to Lucy from "Last Chance Trailer Park" by Mavis Stevens. Lucy is a lovable character who lives in the Last Chance Trailer Park and has many friends with unique and fun personalities.

Our young artists got creative and used clay slab rolled ornaments of Lucy's friends. Everyone enjoyed using the bisqued clay, using watercolor and crayons to design these chicken shapes, and adding special details to bring these characters to life. Each one definitely has individual characteristics. It was amazing to see how each ornament turned out so differently! We all reflected and agreed that the creative campers imaginations just soared on this project. Campers can hang on a Christmas tree or leave out all year long.

The art campers had a fantastic time learning new techniques and expressing themselves through art. It was a joy to see their excitement and pride in their creations. We can't wait for more art adventures and guest artists in the future!

Stay tuned for more fun updates from our art camp! And, yes...we are already thinking of ideas for next year! 2 Soul Sisters Camp 2025...we can't wait.

Happy Summer Folks! Thanks for stopping by and special thanks to Mavis for her drop in visit!
