What We Did
We started with simple materials:
- Plastic cups (solo cups)
- Large coffee filters
- Water-based markers
- Rubber bands
- Liquid starch
First, each camper colored their coffee filters with water-based markers. They used bright, beautiful colors to make their filters look amazing.
Next, we placed the colored filters on top of plastic cups and secured them with rubber bands. Then, we sprayed the filters with liquid starch. This helped set the colors and gave the filters a unique texture.
The Process and Experience
Creating these Chihuly-inspired bowls was all about the process. Our campers enjoyed experimenting with different colors and patterns. They loved seeing how the liquid starch made the colors blend and spread on the filters.
We let the filters set up overnight on the cups. The next morning, we carefully removed the filters from the cups and revealed the beautiful paper art bowls. Each bowl was unique and colorful, just like the campers who made them!
Displaying Our Art
After making the bowls, we took photos to display our beautiful creations. It was a proud moment for all the campers to see their hard work showcased.
What We Learned
Creating these Chihuly-inspired bowls taught us:
