My Artsy friend Kathleen Carter, of Starry Night Studio in Tallahassee, shared this information with me last week and I instantly new I wanted to blog about it!  It is such a way super cool idea!!!

Grades 9 – 12

ART BOX is a brand-new two-day challenge. Art teams of high school students will be partnered with an adult artist mentor and will be given be given a giant “box” in which to create their original art installations! This year, teams will create their installation inside their assigned box which will be inside the museum. After the Youth Art Month exhibit opening night on Monday, March 2, the boxes will be moved outside into the community of Downtown Dothan (Tuesday, March 3- Tuesday, March 31.)   The winning team receives a donation to their school’s visual art program! Only FOUR (4) teams will make the cut, so get your entry in early! Completed installations will be on exhibit in downtown Dothan for the duration of Youth Art Month (March). Students, assemble your best team of SIX (6) students, create a mini-box, and send us a letter explaining why your group has what it takes to be an ART BOX team!

EACH TEAM MUST SUBMIT A LETTER OF INTENT TO INCLUDE:

• Name of school
• List of students in team (name, e-mail, mailing address, phone, grade, and T-shirt size)
• Recommendation from art educator or sponsor
• Why we should pick you, in 24 words or less (be as creative as possible).

Include a Mini-Box Create a tiny art installation in a shoebox to show us your art team’s creativity. This year’s mini-box theme is “Beyond the Borders.” Think outside the box, but create inside the box!
