All In ONE Grandparents' Day Post!

Since Covid, we have adjusted our Grandparents' Day Events.  In the past, we had always done a musical.  With Covid, we have more of a picnic on the grounds event.  

How does it all come together?  We have an excellent administrator that plans...and plans some more!  

The Grandparents arrive at 10:00.

We have seniors driving golf carts to transport the Grandparents to our campus.  Parking is always a problem.

Once the grandparents arrive, they get a card with the order that they are SUPPOSED to visit their stations.

Seniors also help us at stations. 

Stations include:

Brunch

Horseshoes

Book Fair

Painting Potholders

Making rubber band bracelets and keychains

Giant Jenga Games

Hula Hoops

Cornhole

And More!

At noon, the grandparents hit the road.  Most of the time, they take the grandkids to lunch in town.

It is a good day...unless it rains!

Grandparents' Day is always a big deal at Westfield.  We may have a program next year, who knows?  Until then, we all rest from the big day!

Getting Creative with Our Clay Fish

Giving Flower Art to the Grandparents That Are ALWAYS ROOTING for US!

Fifth Graders painted flowers for their grandparents.  As you can see, they all had their own ideas about how they wanted their flowers to look.  

How did the project go down?

Well, I told the kids that I wanted them to make dots with color.  I told them to do all over the paper to keep it balanced.  Also, I told them to fill in between the dots to keep it balanced.  Turned out pretty cool!

Grandma Thought This Was The BEST Flower That She EVER SEEDED! Hee Hee!

Maybe a Loose Warhol?  Fourth Graders did these flowers for their grandparents.  I love how they all put their own spin on the projects!  The boys were like, flowers?  I said grandma likes flowers.  The boys were like, oh yeah, they do! 

Here is how it went down!

The kids drew flowers.

The kids painted the background with acrylic.

The kids painted the flowers with acrylic.

Then, the kids cleaned up their art.

The project took 3 class periods.

These Pretty Flowers Will GROW on YOU! Ha Ha!

The third grade did these flowers for their grandparents.  Very nice, I tell ya.

How did it go down?

We got some circle tracers.  Then, I had traced petals and cut them out for kids to trace.

The kids then painted the background.

After the background was painted, they came back to class and painted the flower.  Then, they added the “doo-dahs”.

  Sometimes you have to trace to get thru it, y’all.  Once kids get an understanding of proportions, they can certain draw on their on.  Just good to have a crutch when something is going to be “gifted” to loved ones and displayed for all to see.
