Sponge Hearts with Stencils for Valentine's Day-Easy Art Project

 
Prep work for the art person in charge-Cut out hearts using approximately 4 x 6 paper.  Easy stuff.  Just fold paper and cut.  Do several at a time.  Need one per kid.  Hey u, even Woodstock can do it-
 


 Give kids a sponge and tell them to "DAB" the paint on the paper until they totally fill in the heart.  Then, move the heart cut-out to another spot and dab some more.  Yes, they will get painted fingerprints.  Let it be a "free for all" for the kids.  Most knew when to say when....

Maclay Middle School Art Rattles



Explanation on Directions:
1 hand size ball of clay
Round out - cut into 2 halves
Make 2 pinch pots
Add extra clay balls (I usually have kids roll out the day before. Marble size or smaller)
Close pinch pot
Add accessories (fish fins, eyes, details...)
Poke hole in bottom of rattle
Let bone dry
Fire in kiln on SLOW 04
Take out glaze
Fire in Kiln on FAST 06
...and there ya have it! 
*The thinner the wall the higher the pitch of the rattle*

Hands and Heart Art Project





These hands and hearts really P-O-P!
ok so I found this cool art project on youtube
 said it was for first grade
I chose to do it with fourth grade
took a full 3 class periods
really hard for fourth grade to stick with a project for 3 weeks

love the results, but kind of hard for fourth grade
maybe 6th grade next year?
We used crayon to color the background.  You could use colored pencil.

Fused Glass Pendants ~ Southern Soiree (Maclay School Auction)

 
We are putting our new glass kiln to work! These will be sold at our Maclay School Auction 
MACLAY'S SOUTHERN SOIREE, March 28th, 2015
These fused glass pendants were created by Maclay Middle School Art Club.
Directions:
  • Glass Demo by Art Teacher
  • We cut assorted glass
  • Glued with Elmers
  • Fired in glass kiln at R3
  • Sanded edges with glass grinder (diamond bit)
  • Glued jewelry finding on with E6000

Matisse In the Corner




 
 
 


 
Wall Art:
Paint paper with tempera
Cut-Out "Matisse Style" shapes with painted paper
Paint the background paper as you wish
Glue down-We used glue sticks and then, had to use glue gun to get the shapes totally flat on the paper

7th Grade Photo Challenge: Teaching ART EDUCATION

Our 7th grade students will be in Washington, DC next week and we wanted to do a  little 
ART Photo Challenge









Here are the Guidelines:
7th grade Maclay Middle School Art Photo Challenge 
  • Students Email photos to kdaniel@maclay.org
  • Adults Text them to (Kim Daniel’s Cell)
  • All photos will be downloaded and placed on The Maclay Middle School Art’s Webpage and placed in a photo gallery titled Art Photo Challenge 7th Grade Trip to National Gallery of Art 2015
  • If you post on your social media, please use #maclaytakesdc and tag Maclay School =)
  • How creative can you get?????
  • Group photos in front of famous art, architecture, historical places & sculptures
  • Selfies in front of famous art
  • Group photos (The more the merrier)
  • Friend Selfies
  • Imitating Sculptures
  • Ice Skating (Oh this is a must) 
This is a great way to get all ages involved in your School's Visual Arts Program. I met with all of 7th graders and did a "spill" on The National Galley of Art. I shared with them all about this particular challenge. I have posted information on my Instagram @kcdart13
I will post pictures on my webpage and then print them to hang on a bulletin board outside of the Maclay Middle School Office. Super excited to see how this 1st Photo Challenge turns out!

Holly Christine Helps Art Students CrEaTe






 
Local Artist Holly Christine (Holly Moody) of Tallahassee, Florida paid our school a guest artist visit! She is working with our 3rd grade on our school auction
Southern Soireee on March 28, 2015
She met with our Lower School Art Teacher, Cathy Hicks, and her 3rd grade classes. This was super exciting as they were introduced to Holly's style of art. "Three Flags" by Jasper Johns produced like the art in Andy's Factory

Easy Heart Art Project for Valentine's Day

Directions
Get pencil, 18 x 24 paper, T-square, and ruler
Divide the paper into fourths
Draw a heart in each square
First, use watercolor
Then, highlight with oil pastels

Kids applied these guidelines to the hearts, not the backgrounds.

Heart 1- Three Primary Colors
    • Red
    • Blue
    • Yellow

Heart 2- Three Secondary Colors
    • Orange
    • Green
    • Violet
Heart 3-Warm Colors
Heart 4-Cool Colors
