hodge podge and modge podge and ikea and piet

by karen #1965 third grade teacher now this is really simple...lots of possibilities though...you can go to IKEA...hey, you ever go to IKEA?..you can get lots of neat stuff there...stuff that you can paint and make regular stuff into cool stuff...
and you get one of these mirrors...
you can order online for $2.99 IKEA mirror
and then you put a coat of base paint on it...if you are doing with small kids...if you are doing with big kids, they can put the base paint on....

then, talk about piet mondrian...
check out this website for little kids...
pretty good...
from MoMA on piet...
remember piet?..

then, start painting...

now, we did this at church camp...
so i ran off the Bible verse on "drafting paper" or vellum...i just ran it thru my ink jet printer...here is a picture of what i am talking about...
and then we used modge podge to put the verse on the mirror...

hey you can be friends with modge podge on facebook
i tell you, some folks love modge podge more than pasta from maggiano's...more than finding a hole in the wall that serves the most perfect french fries...more than a peach milkshake from Chick-fil-A...

after much ado...
let me introduce you to...
the end product...

side story...now when we used these mirrors...my preacher friend was preaching about something at church camp...and she made us look into the mirrors at ourselves...with all these other people in the room...yeah, it was strange...strange like hop out of your comfort zone strange...and i didn't like it...and i didn't like looking in the mirror at myself...basically, i couldn't do it without looking away...i don't know why...the side story ends there...not a very interesting story, but a very interesting thing that i found out about me...

You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
(Carly Simon, 1972)

who was you?...rumors have focused on Warren Beatty, Mick Jagger and Kris Kristofferson, among others...beatty has said he believes it's about him....a rumor that has lasted for 38 years...wow!...rumors are not nice...be nice, u!

happy april 18, 2010!

  1. Have you ever noticed we all say Modge Podge and it's MOD Podge? I was devastated to learn I was saying it wrong all these years...hate it when I have to think when I talk, so I am still saying Modge Podge! My art teacher friends in my masters class had an in depth discussion about this and we have even discussed getting Mod Podge T shirts...mirrors are cute! And I think it's old Warren too.
