We
created "Painted Paper Sunshines using Water Gun Art Painted Paper"! It
was a fun and engaging activity for the 2 Soul Sisters Summer Art Camp,
incorporating lessons on Studio Habits of Mind and Composition. Here's a guide
on how to organize this project:
Materials Needed:
- Water guns filled with diluted
yellow and orange tempera or acrylic paint. See the previous blog post on
how to paint paper with water guns. https://2soulsisters.blogspot.com/2023/11/water-gun-painting-with-2-soul-sisters.html
- Large sheets of paper
- Paintbrushes
- Protective gear (aprons or old
clothes)
- Pencils and erasers
- Pencils
- Glue
- Rulers
- Scissors
- Additional colored paper or mixed
media materials for composition (optional)
Instructions:
- Introduction to Studio Habits
of Mind:
- Begin the session by introducing
the concept of Studio Habits of Mind, focusing on key habits such as
observing, envisioning, experimenting, and expressing.
- Explaining the Project:
- Explain to the campers that they
will be creating vibrant "Painted Paper Sunshines" using water
gun painted paper. This will help us to explore color, composition, and the
Studio Habits of Mind all in this camp art unit.
- Composition and Studio Habits
of Mind:
- While creating the sunshines,
encourage campers to consider composition elements such as balance, focal
point, and movement. Prompt them to envision and experiment with
different arrangements of the sunburst pattern.
- Encourage observation of how the
colors blend, envisioning the final artwork, experimenting with texture
techniques, and expressing their creative ideas.
- Adding Details and Mixed
Media (Optional):
- After the sunburst base is
created, campers can use paintbrushes or additional mixed media materials
to add details such as facial features, rays, or additional elements to
enhance their sunshines.
- Reflection and Discussion:
- Once the artworks are completed,
hold a reflective discussion session where campers share their thoughts
on the Studio Habits of Mind they utilized during the activity. Encourage
them to discuss their compositions and what they observed, envisioned,
experimented with, and expressed.
- Display and Sharing:
- Display the vibrant Painted
Paper Sunshines around the art camp area, allowing campers to admire each
other's work and celebrate their creativity. A gallery walk of sorts is a
nice touch for such an art camp.
