Creating
"Painted Paper Laminated Ornaments using Water Gun Painted Paper"
integrated with photographs of campers can be a fantastic project for the 2
Soul Sisters Summer Art Camp, focusing on the Elements of Art. Here's a
detailed plan for organizing this activity:
Materials Needed:
- Water guns painted paper from
previous art activity https://2soulsisters.blogspot.com/2023/11/water-gun-painting-with-2-soul-sisters.html
- Large sheets of white paper
- Scissors
- Laminating sheets / small
portable laminator
- Hole punch
- Ribbon, wire or string for
hanging
- Beads can be used to add texture
- Pipe Cleaners would work also
depending on your camp budget
- Photographs of campers (printed
to fit the size of the ornament)
- Protective gear (aprons or old
clothes)
Instructions:
- Introduction to the Elements
of Art:
- Begin by introducing the
Elements of Art (line, shape, color, texture, form, value, space) to the
campers. Discuss how these elements are used in various artworks.
- Preparing Painted Paper:
- This activity was done
previously. See blog post for more details and information.
- Photograph Incorporation:
- Once the painted paper is dry,
guide campers in taking individual photographs of each camper using a
cell phone and print them wallet size.
- Print the photographs to fit the
size of the ornament.
- Cutting Out Ornament Shapes:
- We used the die cut machine from
the school work room.
- Laminating the Ornaments:
- Encourage campers to place their
photograph in the center of their painted paper ornament shape.
- Laminate the ornament with the
provided lamination sleeve.
- Punching Holes and Adding
Ribbons:
- Help campers punch a hole at the
top of each ornament.
- Attach a ribbon or string
through the hole for hanging.
- Reflection and Elements of
Art Discussion:
- Encourage campers to reflect on
how they used the Elements of Art in their ornaments during the creation
process. Discuss their choices of color, line, shape, and texture in
their designs.
- Display and Sharing:
- Display the unique and personalized Painted Paper Laminated Ornaments around the camp area, allowing campers to admire each other's creations and celebrate their artistic achievements.
Through this activity, campers can explore the Elements of Art while expressing their creativity, incorporating their photographs into personalized ornaments, and creating beautiful and meaningful keepsakes to take home.
