I can still remember the excitement of the new bracelet. It was flat because it had not been worn. The smell was one that I will never forget. I guess it was fresh leather and strong paint. Our neighborhood bracelet maker would put mountains with a sun rising and maybe an ocean with a palm tree.
Most of us, at this age, are quite fascinated with writing our name. So, I ran across this project (http://artisandesarts.blogspot.ca/2013/02/raining-letters-name-art-grade-56.html) and knew it would be a hit in middle school. The kids really enjoyed writing their names over and over again.
Directions
Show kids an example of a finished project.
Provide the kids some samples of different block letters. (I ran off a sheet for them)
I told the kids that they would have to have at least 30 letters.
Also, I told them that each letter would be a specific color. All the Rs would be red or whatever color they preferred.
Then, they filled in the letters with doodling.
Then, they filled in the letters with doodling.
The finished products were very bright and colorful.
Great project for beginning my 6th grade art students' year.
Here's Goo Goo Dolls singing "Name". So, how did the Goo Goo Dolls get their name? According to Zack O'Malley Greenburg with Forbes in 2011,(http://www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2011/09/02/flashback-how-the-goo-goo-dolls-got-their-name/) it all happened like this-
The Goo Goo Dolls were named The Sex Maggots. As legend has it, the band was forced to find a new name when a club owner refused to put the old name on his marquee. So the boys flipped through a copy of True Detective magazine and settled on a change after finding an advertisement for a "Goo Goo Doll."
