This is our second year of having a Mr. Milford's Art Gallery at Maclay School. Here is how it got started. New school year in 2014. New school head wanting to support the arts on campus. 2 new art teachers that "play" well with others. The 3 art teachers were asked to help make a gallery for his office. We obviously jumped at the chance to have our kids art displayed. About every 6 weeks we change out the art. We have name plates by kids art. We go the extra mile to make it function like a galley show. We purchased some nice black frames that all 3 divisions share.
Once the art is installed. Mr. Milford then writes a hand written note to each child about their art and then the note is placed in snail mail. Very powerful. I have had kids tweet at me a picture of the Thank You note. So Super Cool! This small gesture from our administration had empowered the arts to want to do more on campus and off of campus. It has created conversations with the 3 art teachers that have engaged other faculty and staff. Such a small gesture has touched so many lives and really helped to start to grow our programs even more on campus.
