Summer Art Camp Fun: Creating Spin Art Masterpieces!

This summer, our art camp was filled with creativity, colors, and lots of smiles! One of our favorite projects was making spin art using salad spinners. Yes, you heard that right—salad spinners! We used tempera and acrylic paints to create beautiful, unique pieces of non-objective art. The best part? Every piece was a surprise!

How We Did It First, we placed a piece of paper inside the salad spinner. Then, we added drops of paint—lots of colors to choose from! When everything was ready, we closed the lid and spun as fast as we could. The paint splattered in all directions, creating cool patterns and designs. No two pieces looked the same, which made it even more exciting.

Learning Through Fun Once our artwork dried, we gathered to talk about what we saw. We looked for the Elements and Principles of Art—like color, shape, and balance—in each piece. It was a great chance to practice talking about art and learning how non-objective art (art that doesn’t try to look like anything specific) can still be beautiful and interesting.

Why Non-Objective Art Matters Sometimes, art doesn’t have to look like a tree, a house, or anything we recognize. Non-objective art is all about colors, shapes, and movement. It’s important because it lets us express our creativity without any rules—just fun and imagination!

Smiles All Around The best part of this project was seeing everyone’s happy faces as they spun their creations. The laughter, excitement, and joy were contagious. Art camp this summer was a blast, and we can’t wait to see what colorful adventures we’ll have next time!
