Non-objective art employs the use of bright colors; clean, crisp edges; flat planes; geometric forms; and simplified dimensions. Artists who paint in this style do so in a way that emphasizes the flatness of the canvas or paper.
How did I introduce this lesson? We spoke about Wassily Kandinsky. Did a deep dive into his work during a class discussion.
Students has to choose one of the 4 design ideas listed below:
•Take
a line for a walk
•Overlapping
shapes/ circles
•Use a
ruler to make shapes
•Combination
They were then instructed to draw design on final paper with pencil. The next
steps were to practice blending oil pastels together on
scratch paper. We chose to use a little baby oil to speed up the process. We also went back and outlined with black oil pastel to make the non geometric shapes pop out.
YOu can use this lesson to teach certain aspects of the color wheel. Just depends on what your objectives are that you need to cover.
Hope this helps spur on some creative jices for you - 1969
