How did this happen? Well, I was teaching a unit on Basquiat. We realized it was Boss's Day. We decided to collaboratively work on a few posters to hang them around the middle school office area to celebrate our Administration.
Why is Basquiat so famous?
Jean-Michel Basquiat gained celebrity due to both his striking art and his electrifying personality.
He was fearless, creative and driven, quickly becoming a cultural icon
embodying the New York City art scene of the 1980s and beyond. We have blogged on Basquiat before:
Check it out for more information. Stay tuned for our Homecoming Door Decorations too in the style of Basquiat! As a teacher, we have decided to work smarter not harder and use our units to serve as classroom lessons but also as campus cultural events - Example: if door decorations will be required for an event on campus and we want to participate in the event on campus we need to utilize our classroom lessons and make them stretch beyond our classroom walls. We want to build campus community, so it is to our advantage to show excitement for the "happenings" going on at our school campus. We need to think outside the box and figure out how to kill 2 birds with one stone...so to speak.
Have you ever done this? If so, share in the comments and let us know what worked for you. Looking forward to sharing with you more about our Basquiat mini units.
