Big Bend Habitat for Humanity once again kicks off the holiday season with its popular Festival of Trees. This year’s family event will feature beautiful, creatively decorated artificial trees and wreaths (all of which will be available for purchase), a Friday night preview party including libations, live music and food, as well as family-friendly festivities on Saturday with an early visit from Santa Claus. All proceeds from this event support Big Bend Habitat for Humanity’s mission of constructing affordable homes for residents of Leon and Gadsden counties.

Why should you participate? Well, it teaches EMPATHY and in our Visual Arts Rooms we used it to teach Empathy and Art History. You see each class focused on making a Picasso ornament for the Big Bend event. These are from Maclay's Upper School Digital Photography Class. They were challenged with the lesson of finding a Picasso piece of art and embedding their class Photos in them. Other students took an outside of the box thought process by using transparencies.

We photographed each assignment and printed out in wallet size or 3x5. Laminated each one. Punched holes and strung with ribbon. Some of these are just amazing!
See where we have blogged on this before:

Happy Happy Merry Merry and all of the jazz - a picture is worth a 1,000 words. Now these get to be hung on a tree and talked about for years to come! Thanks, Kaitlyn for allowing us to share.
