Sailboats and Reflections at the End of the School Year

The end of the school year in art is always a challenge.  Actually, the end of the school year in all subjects is always a challenge 😊.  I found this great sailboat art activity at Art Teacher in LA and the kids really enjoyed the project.  I changed the project a little, but I mostly stuck with Maria Galloway's post on her blog.  Thanks for the inspiration, Maria!

Directions:

I cut rectangles out of blue paper.

I folded the rectangles in half.

The kids drew a sailboat on top of the rectangle with oil pastels.

They folded the paper and rubbed it pretty hard.

The sailboat left a faint shadow on the bottom half of the paper.

They filled in all the details.

Then, the kids went over the top lightly with oil pastel on it's side on the top of the paper to make the sky.

On the bottom of the paper, they rubbed the blue oil pastel pretty hard on the paper to make the reflection.

😲 Wow!
