Hokusai and The Big Wave!

Oh, The Big Wave a fun lesson!  Summer vacation is right around the corner and the kids have dream of the beach in their heads!  The Great Wave off Kanagawa, also known as The Great Wave, is a woodblock print by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai.  The Wave was published between 1829-1833.
I really liked the results of the project that was done by 4th grade in one class period.  How did we get it done?  I had everything set up for the kids when they arrived.  We watched an awesome "draw along" video by Elise Schmidt, Click HERE for the how to draw The Great Wave video.  Thanks so much for the video, Elise!  It was beyond awesome!
Directions:
The kids watched the video.
I stopped and started the video and they drew along with black oil pastel.
The painted with watered down tempera paint.
Then, they splatter painted just a little!
Have a look!
I am ending with Jenny Lewis and her "Big Wave!"
