Clay Pinch Pot Turned Into Jelly Fish

Clay Pinch Pot Turned Into Jelly Fish

How did this happen? I am not quite sure...but I love the "pivot" this lesson took for my student Lauren. Well, you see the directions were to create a pinch pot fish. We discussed the process and reviewed the vocabulary for the lesson. we examined the kiln procedures. This is that teachable moment that you love the "ah-ha" moment on the students faces.

Lauren decided to make a jelly fish... one with tentacles made of clay that was very fragile and one that we drilled holes in...

Once the holes were created, we let the clay get bone dry. Fired it at 04 to bisque. Took out of kiln and glazed it then fired it again at 06. Once we unloaded, the next step was to assemble the wire and beads for the tentacles. This was quite the adventure with lots of learning curves but non the less it was a very successful attempt at creating a one of a kind Jelly Fish! Don't ya just love it? We all did!

Drop us a comment if you have any questions. We would love to hear from you. I do believe this mixed media lesson turned into something quite spectacular!
