How do you teach positive and negative shapes? I found this skeleton lesson worked well for my middle school kids. Especially when we added color. Once the color was added the idea of negative shapes just clicked because the positive shapes were so evident. There can be many variations on this lesson with the color. We chose watercolor but even with that you could take the lesson to the next level for more advanced students. Adding in a layered lesson of color theory and color wheel.
