The First Grade Class at The Westfield School performs a Thanksgiving program each year! The tradition was started by my 2nd grade teacher, Rita Parks. She wrote the program and it encompasses the story of the Pilgrims and also is quite patriotic. The program helps these little six and seven year olds gain confidence on the stage. Each student has a speaking part. They get really excited around turkey time. To help join in with the celebration, I had the students draw and paint turkeys.
Directions:
Kids looked at some different turkeys.
We all traced a yogurt top to make the heads. Otherwise the turkeys would have been tiny like ants and big like elephants.
Once they got the turkeys draw, they colored the feathers, eyes, and beak with oil pastels.
Also, the kids outlined the turkey with a black oil pastel.
Then, they painted with watercolor.
L👀k!
