Paper Mache Balloon Creations

http://www.artoneacademy.com/papier-mache-sculpture-class/ This link provided a great concept on why students need to use paper mache in class.

"At our art classes we use different materials. Some of our three dimensional projects have been made out of Papier-mâché.
Papier-mâché is an enormously versatile and exciting craft medium. It allows creating three dimensional objects out of pieces of paper stuck together with glue or starch. It also can be reinforced with fabric. When the object is dry it becomes solid. Much of its appeal is based on the simplicity of the techniques used and the ready availability of the materials needed – newspaper is the main ingredient."

***I have upgraded and only use plaster wrap these days as I find it more efficient and a better way to manage a classroom in this 3d project.

Students love to work with paper mache and it is such a good way for them to think as if there was no box at all.  They took a balloon and had to create a piece of art from it. Love that we got a bird, fish and a duck from this lesson. We had a short time to create due to class schedules, but the outcome was pretty clever given our time restrictions.

When was the last time you created with paper mache? Mine was this week with my students. If I were you, I would make time to do it soon.
