Athletic Signing Day Ideas

I tried to find Rhodes College Cupcake toppers but no such luck. What do an engineer and art teacher parent combo do? They take to the internet and figure out how to make their own. So, that is just what Left Brain hubby and I did. Just for giggles...check out this post on my hubby. He is real crafty. We all joke that he is like MacGyver. He can fix anything with gum and a match stick.
First we found the Lynx Logos that we wanted to use.
Put them in a template.
We had them printed on card stock at Kinkos
This gadget was found at
This was my art project over Thanksgiving Break.
See this link for more details on the whole punches and how you mibht be able to use them.

We punched out 1 logo of each out and glue to a wooden stick. Time consuming but they looked really super.
The spread laid out before the students came in to munch.
Custom water bottle labels can be created at
Goody bags full of red and black candy. This was easy this time of year with all of the fun peppermint treats.
We had white batter cupcakes with black icing and chocolate batter cupcakes with red frosting.

Our family is pretty sentimental. This is a thrown bowl made by my Dad. In the blog, we have referred to him as Bobo. He throws on the wheel. He made this for me one year for part of my Christmas gifts. Being an art teacher, I just wanted a part of his talents on the food table. It just so happens that Rhodes College colors are Red and Black. You know how all the
Cochran-Jerles-Ray-Daniel Crews feel about Red and Black. It is in our blood =)
I got this idea from my friend Meredith. She used the link below a few years ago for her daughter's soccer signing. Again, we love the red and black. One side has an R and one side has Rhodes College. They were super easy to create online. I used a coupon too which sweetened the order even more.

This chore was really easy. We created the labels online. They arrived in less than a week. We bought small and large Publix brand waters. Peeled the label off and stuff or Rhodes College label on the bottles.

I thought Publix did a fabulous job with this cookie cake. It was delicious and devoured in no time flat. I am thankful that Publix has artsty folks that work in their bakery department.
So, when Coach Erica got up to say a few words about Mary Frances we all ended up with tears in our eyes. MF just got up and went to give her a hug. They have had their ups and downs but they speak a special language and always have each other's best interest at heart. One of the sweetest photos from the day. Much love and respect right there.
No words needed...photo bomb with my sister. It is nice that we are all pretty close even though we live apart from one another. Doing this Art Education Blog helps 1965 and I stay connected on a daily basis.
To the Bass' thanks for attending all of those high school volleyball games. Not to mention our runs to eat after many of the games to places like Newks https://www.newks.com/
After many games! Good time and great memories.
I don't know who has the biggest grin...MaC or Aunt Dawn.
It is official and we are inked.
Mary Frances had many guest show up from her past. Like Coach Monica. She was her lower school PE Coach and the first one to motivate MF to get her Presidential Fitness Award =) We are so blessed to have had such amazing coaches and teachers on her journey.
 Stickers were custom created from

The whole family crew...minus Papa and the cousins who were either working or taking finals.
Technology + Art = this super cool new scoreboard table!
Check out this snazzy new scoreboard table!!! Thanks, Coach Jake for making it scroll. I am most appreciative for this addition to the Maclay Athletics facility. Marauder to Lynx...she has got this Roots and Wings.
Yes, there were many shout outs on social media (Art / Technology / Communication)  We all appreciated the love that was shown. It was very sweet to read all of the post.

Madison, you are our daughter #2. You are family. I will never forget the first time you guys tried out for Tallahassee Juniors. That seems like a lifetime away. I am so grateful that we have all made this journey together.

I know you too are forever friends / sisters. We have survived so many things between our families. We have laughed, cried, vented, had hissy fits, been hangry, made many road trips...I could keep on going. Most of all you both just get each other and I love that. In the last 5 years I have watch both of you over come many hard situations that life has thrown you from Alzheimers, Breast Cancer, Diabetes, Brain Cancer to just finding a Prom dress or trying to find a weekend to get away to the beach or lake house.

Most appreciative for Mary Frances' Maclay Teammates. (and Ty Fowler for his fabulous photography!) I am going to miss help coordinating themed games via social media. You guys still know where to find me on campus...and, I promise...I will be at some of the volleyball games next year to cheer you all on!

 Blessed!
Maclay Volleyball it has been real!

Looking forward to 1 last club season with these guys at Tallahassee Juniors. Thanks for the support and thanks for coming out to support our new Lynx.
The look between mom and dad when they realize they have a senior and are about to be empty nesters...tee hee!
That smile says it all. Coach Harris, she is all yours and we couldn't be more proud. We are so looking forward to watching your team over the next four years.
Roots and Wings as my friend Marty termed it for me the other day...Yes, Coach she is ready to fly and we all have given her roots to come back when she needs a Tallahassee fix!

Our Art Ed Blog has a good deal of family history in it as we have been posting since 2010. I love the fact that no matter what we have going on in our life we some how enhance it with art to make it even better. We combine technology and communication to spread the word and share our ideas so others don't have to reinvent the wheel. I can't imagine our daughter having a signing and art not being involved. Think about it. Art was all throughout this post. I am glad we were able to share it with you all and I hope that it will help inspire in some way at your next family or life event. This was a fun post to share today.

Morale of the post:
Art makes things better.
Raise your kids with ROOTS and give them WINGS.
Art enhances technology, communication and athletics

Happy Friday
