Designing T-Shirts

Yep, it is me 1969 with a quick blog on T-Shirts. The photo above is of my daughter. She is a good mix of a combination of left and right-brained parental units! With that said, we have a running joke in our household that when we hear something funny or quirky - we are like. So, yeppers that would make a good T-Shirt saying. Have you ever thought...what someone said would make a great T-shirt? I think if you are right-brained you do this type of thing....Um, that is just how our brain works! Having a middle school aged child we are constantly saying this. Therefore; we use Uberprints allot in our household! Have you ever been to Uberprints? If not, check it out! Here are a few T-Shirts we have designed over the years. There is no minimum order - which makes it nice for birthday parties or fun events. Check it out! Get inspired!
Heard this at my nephew's high school graduation last year from another Art Teacher (Laura Harrrison)! I thought it was hilarious and decided to make a shirt =)
The name of our first Boat!

As I was a chaperone for a field trip last year, I had one of these made for my roommate (Carson Durrance) and fellow teacher! We had a blast and the kids that were with us will NEVER forget the room #! Good Times and GREAT memories.

Pretty much sums up LIFE in general =) We had this one made with a green tie dye!
LOVE LOVE LOVE it.
Great Advice from a good friend, Kim Pisano, to my daughter! Love this one...it applies to so many things in life.

Over and out! Hope you have a good one....I think my next shirt design is going to be a saying that I just found....
" YOU CREATE YOU!"

Have you ever made a book out of a Post It Note Pad? If not, check these out!

I started this years Middle School 3D Art Class off with a Book Art Unit. I ordered a kit from Sax Arts and Crafts. Check out the Bookmaking kit here. This was a very successful lesson. Most all of the supplies came with it. We changed up the book covers with handmade paper from a stash in the art room. Normally with Western Bound Books, one has to sew together the inside in signatures. Using the Post It Note was a good fix for leaving out that step.

Check out the other book making post on our blog here. Quick easy ideas that you can use for other subjects projects!

Mona Lisa, The Renaissance & Violent Femmes? Say What? Oh yeah...

A little photo of Kids having fun in class! Nothing like having 5 projects going at one time!
I just thought this was the best way to get your classes hooked on the Renaissance! Check it out....Rock on!

Have you heard this song? Kristin Andreassen - "Crayola Doesn't Make A Color For Your Eyes!"

I went to see the doctor. I'd come down with the blues.
She said "No, I can't cure you, but I know something you can do.
Take out a piece of paper, and sit down for a while,
And draw a pretty picture of something that makes you smile."
Well, I know what makes me happy. Didn't have to think for long.
But when I tried to draw it, it always came out wrong.
I had a box of 12, 48 and 64,
But nowhere could I find that one shade I was looking for.
I guess I realized shoulda come as no surprise
Crayola doesn't make a color for your eyes.
There is no way that I could possibly describe you.
Crayola doesn't make a color to draw my love.

At first I thought of Green Blue, but then I saw Blue Green.
And then sometimes in bright light, they look Aquamarine.
I think at night they're darker. I looked again for you.
Saw Grey and Black and went out walkin' after Midnight Blue
But the hues of the deepest skies would be a compromise
Crayola doesn't make a color for your eyes.
There is no way that I could possibly describe you.
Crayola doesn't make a color to draw my love.

Spring Green is much too yellow, Sea Green is far too pale.
Cornflower's way too mellow, so I'll try again and fail.
There's no way I can capture the way you make me feel.
One look from you is rapture, whether Blue or Green or Teal.
No color qualifies. That crayon's telling lies
Crayola doesn't make a color for your eyes

Hey look, it's Periwinkle. So sure I got it now.
But you wink and there's a twinkle in your eye and still, somehow,
I just can't get that sparkle. Those glitter crayons won't.
Maybe Glow-In-The-Dark'll get it right. Aw, no they don't.
Mr. Crayola tries, but I'm left to fantasize
Crayola doesn't make a color

For your eyes, something darker let's see what I can find.
Melted mahogany and got the depth not the shine.
Just about gave up and then I peeled the paper off a little end of...
Really thought it coulda been... ahh, not even Burnt Sienna!
Your passport says they're brown, but I'm gonna keep lookin' round...
Crayola doesn't make a color for your eyes
There is no way that I could possibly describe you
Crayola doesn't make a color to draw my love

Crayola doesn't make a color for your eyes
There is no way that I could possibly describe you
Crayola doesn't make a color to draw my love
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Happy Monday, x0x 1969

Recycled Glass Bottles - Spoon Rest / Cheese Tray

Hey Y'all! It is 1969 - just checking in....well, it has been awhile since I have blogged. I am feeling a little inspired these days and I thought I would share a few ideas from my 3D Middle School Art Class. So, for an easy lesson that has an instant result and a take home product. We have glass bottle spoon rest! (or a cheese tray....depending on how big the bottle is) Yep, the kids, faculty, staff and neighbors have all donated bottles of all sorts and we decided to melt them in the kiln.

How it works....
1) Show an example of finished product
2) Collect bottles of all kinds
3) Soak in sink to get lables off
4) Peel or scrape labels off of bottles
5) Add extra coating of kiln wash to kiln
6) Fire kiln at 017 with a hold of any where from 10 to 30
7) Take out of kiln and Take home =)Look for more post soon! We are back in the art swing in full force!Over and out.... x0x 1969
