Memphis House and the Artsy Fireplace Logs

Here is a glimpse of summer past. I decided that at our daughter's house in Memphis that this would be a cool make over for the fireplace. What do ya think? Check out the process below. Think it turned out pretty way super cool!
When you realize the birch was to wet....you leave it in oven for several hours on 150 degrees.
Shhhhhh.....husband doesn't know =)
Finished logs in the 1922 house.
Yes, we have lights to use in fire place but there is a puppy in the house named Murray and she just wanted to play with them.
Too wet...oopsy a little mold showing through.
Painted and left in the Florida sun for several days.
Moved to fire pit for a week or so for them to dry out.
 Getting it done.

 Loving the look.

We painted the inside of the fireplace black and names and years showed up.
Lots of character in this house.

Bought these birch logs off of Etsy.
Applied Gesso for a smooth surface.
Sanded each one down for a smoother look.
Acrylic paint
Love the color pop,
2 or 3 coats of paint.

Saw this idea on Pinterest. Fell in love!
Tutwiller Fireplace gets a face lift.
Purchased the metal accent piece.
This was before.
We have come a long way since this photo.

Do you know how many songs have the word FIRE in them. Well, I went with this one...

Another idea, kind of cool concept.

Painting the whole log not just the end.

Jim Dine Peace Sign

Did you know that Jim Dine painted a peace ☮ sign with watercolor?  I did not!  I was excited 😍 to find this treasure.  As I researched, I found that I could own this piece of art for $4,000-$5,000.  Here is the info posted about the art:
Signed Jim Dine Watercolor on Paper. Signed in pencil 🖉 bottom right. Unframed, mounted to matting. Paper is 23 3/4" H x 18" W. Paper is in good condition and hinged to matting on top with tape. Paper looks to be out of a spiral notebook.  Marked on back in pencil 9332.  (Click here for website)

Who doesn't love Jim Dine and a Peace ☮ Sign?  The kids 👧👦 really enjoyed this project.  I let this splatter a bit and that really ticked their tock!

Directions:

Kids learned a little about Jim Dine.
Kids used pencil to draw a peace ☮ sign.
Kids went over the peace ☮ sign with charcoal.
Kids smeared the charcoal a tad with paper towels or a finger .
Then, we used liquid watercolor for the final splash of color.

L👀K!

Jim Dine always good.  Peace always good.  O.A.R. always good.
