Happy Halloween with Hudertwasser!

Here's a great project combining Hundertwasser and Halloween.  I snagged this project off Pinterest and of course, put my own spin on it.  During the project, I was absent and the kids all went in opposite directions.  Oh well, I think they turned out pretty sweet.

Directions:

I showed a few videos to get the kids familiarized with Hundertwasser's work.
The kids drew haunted houses.
I told them to incorporate some of Hundertwasser's domes, swirls, and lollipops.
Many of the kids used oil pastel on their work.
Some of the kids used liquid watercolor.

L👀k!

Japanese Kites - Art Club

What do we do in Art Club? Well we want to inspire students to learn. This lesson was about Japanese culture by making fun windsocks. These windsocks / kites can be decorated using watercolor diffusing techniques or almost any medium. Just add a string and hang for a colorful display. This time we chose to use watercolor and salt for a cool reaction!
Here is another link to where we have blogged on this before:
Where you can purchase the kite kits:
Love the salt reaction with the water color!
This lesson is always very successful!

The Name Game

Kids love writing their names.  Have you ever noticed?  I saw this art activity on Pinterest and decided to give it a whirl.  The art lesson gave the kids an opportunity to practice their ruler skills and work a little bit with color theory.  The could actually see the mistakes with color combinations play our in front of their eyes.  This was an easy and enjoyable project for the 4th graders.  Oh yeah, I got to learn a little about each kid with this art lesson.  FUN!

Directions:

Explain to kids how to use a ruler.
Draw a grid with the ruler.
Outline the squares.
Paint with watercolor.
The kids write their names and things they love.

Here is one crazy song from American Horror Story about names.  Rock it, Jessica Lange!

Maclay Visual Arts and Festival of Trees, 2017 (with Middle School Art, Kim Daniel)

This is the second post on this lesson we are doing #oneschool.  On Tuesday, I posted about US Art's Picasso pieces. Today I post on MS Art Picasso pieces. We covered Cubism with faces and guitars. I tried to work in as many Elements and Principles as possible. See link for more details http://2soulsisters.blogspot.com/2017/10/getting-art-ready-for-festival-of-trees.html We will do one more follow up post from Lower School with white clay doves and the finished tree, so stay tuned!

How do I laminate?  Well, this is the lamination machine that I have at home
It is a great investment for many art projects we have crafted over the years!

Christmas will be here before you know it...hope our tree helps someone get into a home...1969
