The Dragonflies that I Call Butterflies! Oopsy.
The Dragonflies ended up being WAY bigger than I had anticipated. What else is new? It truly was the unicorn's fault.
The kids painted paper for their wings. I had cut 4 large sheets of paper. They drew and painted the wings. We talked about colors and symmetry.
On the following art class, the kids cut out the wings. Then, they drew and cut the dragonfly bodies.
The kids picked out a sheet of 12 x 18 inch construction paper. They drew random things on the paper with oil pastel.
I glued googly eyes, antennae, the wings, and the body on the big sheet of construction paper.
The worst part was using the hot glue gun. It was a slow process. With one class, I could keep up. With the other class, the kids ended up stacking the parts together and I glued the dragonfly together after they left.
This was a very fun project and looked really springy displayed in the hall.
Elvis sang, "The sky is full of ...Butterflies." Not Dragonflies.
