Easy Batik Art Project

I Love Batik
and
Kids do too!

Directions and Advice on Batik-

Do not use thin paper.
Use THICK paper because this is what happens if you choose thin:

Get THICK paper
Color with oil pastels on THICK paper
Crumple THICK paper 2 times
Open up the THICK paper and flatten THICK PAPER
Get black shoe polish and rub on the THICK paper (kinda fun)

Take the THICK paper to the sink and GENTLY wash off the shoe polish
GENTLY dab THICK paper with paper towels and let dry.

WaLLa WaLLAAA!

Cool stuff.

Get Jiggy With It...Throwing it Back with Will Smith..
(a few dresses in video look a bit batiky)

  1. The revival of that music video gave me a laugh. I love doing batiks with the kids, I've used watered down tempera and india ink to give the batik-esque look, but never shoe polish. I have some experimenting to do. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I've never used shoe polish for this either. Think I'll give it a try!!

It's been a while since you posted music with your lessons! It's fun seeing you doing it again - I always got a kick out of your 'soundtrack'!
