nursery rhyme time...

by karen #1965 third grade teacher...nursery rhyme art...just a few ideas...here is the art...u guess the rhyme...

 Oh yeah...Humpty Dumpty...

Baa, Baa, Black Sheep...

Jack and Jill..

There was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe...

---------------------
these are very baby, baby...i am thinking kindergarten or first grade at the most...

here is a good humpty dumpty you tube video to show kids...cute...

i just really like that Band-Aid on Jack's head...what about Band-Aids?...aren't they the cure all?...have you ever noticed when a kid gets hurt and there is any blood involved, it is Band-Aid time?...i have even had kids squeeze the injured spot to get blood out so they can be worthy of a Band-Aid...ever wonder the history of the Band-Aid?...well here it is...it was all about a good husband worried about his wife...

Earle Dickson was employed as a cotton buyer for the Johnson & Johnson when he invented the band-aid in 1921. His wife Josephine Dickson was always cutting her fingers in the kitchen while preparing food.
At that time a bandage consisted of separate gauze and adhesive tape that you would cut to size and apply yourself. Earle Dickson noticed that gauze and adhesive tape she used would soon fall off her active fingers. He decided to invent something that would stay in place and protect small wounds better.
Earle Dickson took a piece of gauze and attached it to the center of a piece of tape, and then covered the product with crinoline to keep it sterile. His boss, James Johnson, saw Earle Dickson's invention and decided to manufacture band-aids to the public and make Earle Dickson vice-president of Johnson & Johnson.

ending with a lullaBYE...
shawn mullins (from atlanta), 1998

She grew up with the children of the stars
in the Hollywood hills and the boulevards.
Her parents threw big parties. Everyone was there.
They hung out with folks like Dennis Hopper and Bob Seger and
Sonny and Cher.

She feels safe now in this bar on Fairfax.
And from the stage I can tell that she can't let go and she can't
relax.
And just before she hangs her head to cry,
I sing to her a lullaby
I sing:
Everything's gonna be all right.
Rockabye, rockabye.
Everything's gonna be all right.
Rockabye, rockabye, rockabye.

She still lives with her mom outside the city
down that street about a half a mile.
And all her friends tell her she's so pretty
but she'd be a whole lot prettier if she smiled once in a while.
'Cause even her smile looks like a frown.
She's seen her share of devils in this angel town.

I told her I ain't so sure about this place.
It's hard to play a gig in this town and keep a straight face.
Seems like everybody's got a plan.
It's kind of like Nashville with a tan.

have a great day!

School Auction - Ceramic Platter

Starting to think about our school auction....here are to platters that we painted in the past. The top one was renered by Tallahassee Artist, Anne Hemple. (Previous post on Anne Hemple) The bottom platter was created with our Latin Theme. Pretty simple....easy to do and a good cost effective way to help raise $ for the school via art class.
See related post to School GALA below:

make a cake or bake a cake?

by karen #1965 third grade teacher so...would you rather make a cake or bake a cake?...or better yet...what is the difference?...well, when you make a cake, you make it with art stuff...when you bake a cake, you bake it with grocery store stuff...
hey...speaking of grocery store stuff...i had grocery store feet when i was a kid...did u?...they looked like this...

can you tell the difference in a cake you make and a cake you bake?
well, let's see...can you tell which one is fake?
here is cake #1

here is cake #2

 so which cake is fake?
ready...?
i said, are you ready????
taaadaaaa...
the anticipation is killing you, isn't it?
the fake cake is...
wanna hint?
you are correct!  the fake cake is cake #2!
my smart, artsy daughter made cake #2
we had to purchase the goods to make it at walmart
cake #2 was more expensive than cake #1
a very sweet grandmother made me cake #1 for teaching her grandchild
oh the benefits of teaching children....yum yum...
(donna summer, 1978)
someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
and I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooo!
happy saturday, october 15, 2011
p.s...i like to make cakes...with art stuff...just sayin'....cooking cakes..ahh...not so much....
p.s.s....wanna cake chocolate pie that minny baked?

p.s.s.....i think i goofed...i thought this post had not been posted...i thought it was a draft from back in may...so i was just fixing it with the new cake thots...and i went to preview it...and i saw comments...i had already posted it...oh well...bloggers goof sometimes...and maybe you didn't see it before....maybe you needed to think about grocery feet...maybe you needed to laugh at the thot of minny's cake......i just do not like "miss" hilly...she is the biggest jerk...did you know that she is ron howard's daughter?...ron howard..you know, opie taylor...

ron howard as opie on andy griffith

bryce dallas howard "miss" hilly with her dad

the scene from the help

p.s.s.s....now...i have realized that minny baked a dang chocolate pie...not a cake...wow...but i still left it...i used the strikethrough tool...never used it before...
now remember this folks...
u is kind....u is smart...u is important!

an apple a day is good with coffee, cream, and sugar

by karen 1965 third grade teacher...so, i know this post is "post" johnny appleseed day (september 26), but it is the best i can do...
the title of this post?...well it is like this, folks...i get one of my cool tie dye tervis tumblers...

and fill i it with coffee and cream and head to school...and as soon as i get settled, i eat a yummy gala apple...

sometimes...i am running late eating my apple...so i end of nibbling as i teach...write the subtraction problem on the markerboard, take a bite...show kids how to regroup, take a bite...so my kids know that i love apples...and so on my birthday, my friend, k.a.l., brought me this coupon for an apple...

creative, huh?...kids are so cool and creative...they watch what u do and internalize it...so WATCH WHAT YOU DO, FOLKS!...
anyway...apples ideas for bloggers...use if you wish...

so i shall end this post with a little flo rida...

[Chorus (T-Pain):]
Shawty had them apple bottom jeans (jeans)
Boots with the fur (with the fur)
The whole club was looking at her
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
