The Brer Rabbit Folktale

by karen #1965 3rd grade teacher now like i have said before, i am a 3rd grade teacher...so i gotta try to throw in a little literature in with my art...but, i have taught art to 1st thru 12th graders for a couple of years or so...but, i missed having "my class" and i went back to regular ed to have a special group i could bond with each year (side story, i guess)...i am from the south...and we love us some brer rabbit...so you see, here is whatcha do....you read a little of joel chandler harris' brer rabbit tales...if ur lucky you might find one of these books...
if you are not lucky, well go online and get one of these folktales...
now some of you might freak out with uncle remus folktales...but i hope not...because uncle remus is history and history is where you come from and you gotta know where you come from so you will know where you have been and it will help you get where you are going...and when you get where you are going...if you get lucky enough...you can stop at starbucks and get a mocha...
so...don't dis on uncle remus..if you don't get uncle remus...well...it is not unfortunate..it is just one of those things that you don't get...like i don't get why some folks don't like The B-52s...
check these folks out...how cool and colorful are they?
so...u read a brer rabbit story...
u cut these out for the kids and tape them down on a piece of paper...
they sponge paint around it...
then, they just cut out eggs and sprinkle them around...
and then...get some coke and popcorn...and watch the movie!
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay, My, oh my what a wonderful day!  Plenty of sunshine heading my way, Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay, Mister Bluebird on my shoulder, It's the truth, it's actch'll ,Ev'rything is satisfactch'll, Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay, Wonderful feeling, wonderful day!

  3. when we went skiing out west, our instructor called the beautiful, warm days without snow or humidity....bluebird days. I really don't enjoy skiing unless that sunshine is heading my way!
